Our Story

Three guys, a rabbi and a taco truck meet on the street.  Sounds like the start of a joke, but it’s actually a new wave in culinary fusion, fondly known as TAKOSHER™.  Lovingly bringing together two cultures, TAKOSHER™ is the first certified Glatt kosher taco truck to roll on the streets of Los Angeles, delivering “The Chosen Taco” and putting Lowell Bernstein’s life-long dream into high gear.

Growing up in Los Angeles, Bernstein always had a great appreciation for Latino culture, but his kosher regimen made it difficult to partake gastronomically.   ”I lived in Mexico City from 1994 to 1998, and that cultural experience solidified my fascination with tacos and the hugely important role that they play throughout the country.  When I returned to L.A., I began sharing what I had learned, fully embracing “taculture” preparing fresh salsas and throwing “taquizas” (taco parties) for family and friends.” This  passion has carried through to the present, when the planets — actually, the tortillas — have finally aligned so that Bernstein can share this delicious passion with the public through TAKOSHER™.

Bernstein begins this culinary road show as one of three caballeros, teaming with long-time amigos Chris Martin and Moises Baqueiro.  Martin brings to the table years of experience as a successful entrepreneur and an enthusiastic eater.  He jumped at the opportunity to get involved in the mobile food revolution, believing that TAKOSHER™ is “a great vehicle to bring something new to this fun and tasty pop cultural phenomenon of meals on wheels in Los Angeles.”  Baqueiro, a professional musician and self-admitted “tacoholic”, met Bernstein more than a decade ago and was immediately drawn to his deep respect for all things taco.  Over the years, their friendship has produced a number of unique catering events seamlessly integrating food, music and multi-cultural appreciation.
